Using classical media of charcoal, watercolour and oil paint, Sergio has created a tender series of masterpieces that delve into the complex world of human emotion, while Amelia's work has been crafted from non-traditional media. This includes transparencies in recycled box frames, painted glass, digitally created prints with fibre edging, along with charcoal and graphite portraits.
The influence of love and desire is the binding element in the exhibition and both artists show compassion and adulation for both the frailties and strengths of humanity.
Having long admired each other's art practice, this is Amelia and Sergio's first collaboration and they have been careful to ensure the large collection of works are affordable to a wide variety of budgets.
"We were both making erotic art and felt it was time Lismore had an exhibition in this genre," Amelia said. "We both want to encourage local people to support the blossoming local art scene. Sergio's style is so subtle and beautiful that he seems to make bodies sing with the force of life. His talent is an inspiration to me."
Sergio, a Bolivian artist who has been working in the Northern Rivers for some years, also has a great respect for Amelia's work. "Amelia shows with opening mind the nature and grace of our natural world," he said. "She is a bit cheeky, full sexy in her colourful photographs. And lots more what I don't know yet." The opening night for Love & Desire, featuring music by Hannah Day De Torres, will be held next Tuesday, May 4, at Caddies from 5.30pm and everyone is welcome. The exhibition is on show until the end of May. |
