Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed
Directed by Raja Gosnell
Desperately trying to escape their own movie - Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and Scooby.
Ready for the good news? Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is actually better than the original. Which isn't saying much really, considering the last Scooby-Doo movie totally sucked.
Don't get me wrong. I was a huge fan of the cartoon when I was a young'un and even now it still makes me chuckle. It was definitely Scooberific and Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed manages to capture some of that corny monster magic and mayhem as the Mystery Inc team, Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr), Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Velma (Linda Cardellini), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and Scooby-Doo (voiced by Neil Fanning) do their darndest to discover who has unleashed a myriad of monsters upon an unsuspecting city.
Which criminal mastermind could possibly be behind the attacks? Is it Old Man Wickles (Peter Boyle) or tenacious TV reporter Heather (Alicia Silverstone)? Maybe its mild mannered museum curator Patrick (Seth Green). After all, he allegedly fancies Velma and everybody knows that it's Daphne who's the hottie! Pretty suspicious, hey!
How much you enjoy Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed will depend on your age or IQ. Its definitely aimed at the under-ten's and should be a winner these school holidays. There's enough good-natured humor, fun, colorful characters, some not-too-scary monsters and mysterious goings-on to keep the kiddies amused throughout its one and a half hours.
What is outstanding is the impressive special effects. The CGI is faultless. Want proof? Check out Scooby getting down and funky on the dance floor. It's Scoobylarious!!!!!
(Ok, enough with the Scooby speak!) Good, clean family fun.
