A group of motivated community volunteers have recently renovated The Channon Teahouse Gallery, creating a wonderful new space to highlight the diversity of artistic talent in the area.
This was the original vision for The Channon Teahouse Gallery, which was created by artist Michael Taylor and his wife Betty in the 1970s, after they renovated the derelict village butcher shop. The new plan for the gallery is to have bi-monthly exhibitions that feature paintings, prints, drawings, ceramics and sculptural pieces by artists living in The Channon and Terania Creek postal area.
The current exhibition includes works by locals Gyps Curmi, Brigitte Havan, Annie Heitmann, Susan Joyce, Judith Shannon, Sergio Torrez and Tania Whatmore. Michael and Betty will be the special guests of honour when the gallery re-opening celebration and grand exhibition opening is held on Friday, January 30, from 6pm.
The night will give people a chance to meet the artists in the current exhibition, peruse a historical photographic display of the original gallery by Betty, listen to free entertainment by local musicians and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or lemon myrtle punch and some vegetarian nibbles.
This is a fantastic new community initiative and teahouse host, Dee, invites everyone in the community to visit The Channon tomorrow night and make their opening night a resounding success. The current exhibition will be on show until the end of February. The Channon Teahouse Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm. For more information phone Dee on 6688 6276. |
